Despite much talk of businesses ‘building back better’ post-pandemic, the truth remains that office-space is simply failing neurodivergent individuals. Certainly, the prevalent open plan ‘one size fits all’ offices are ill-designed for anybody who isn’t a confident extrovert. Making space more welcoming and workable for every type of brain is actually a lot simpler than businesses may fear. Nooks are recognised as an internationally Certified Autism Resource and, as such, present a very clear option for any business wanting to make positive change.  Those making such inclusive steps are reaping rewards. Big players such as Microsoft and SAP argue that autistic colleagues help to provide competitive edge. The way we use offices may be changing, but offices are not going away. If businesses are to really ensure that 2021 marks a new beginning, then provision for autistic and neurodivergent professionals must be a key consideration.
